New Opel Corsa - Winner of Compact Hatch Award

It is our pleasure to announce that the Opel Corsa 1.0 T Enjoy was named the winner in the compact hatchback division of the Consumer Awards - yet another award for Opel.

Using a unique judging process that combines an external jury, customer input and an experienced test team, the annual Consumer Awards recognises the best vehicles available in South Africa. The ultimate goal of the awards is to identify the best buys in each category so as to assist consumers in making informed decisions, and Opel has come out on top yet again!

Contenders had to meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the compact hatchback category:

  • A list price of between R160 000 and R250 000 at the time of semi-finalist voting (1 September 2016)
  • Value for money
  • Balance of fuel economy and power performance
  • Practicality
  • Brand strength
  • Design and quality appeal
  • Ride/handling prowess and safety

What ultimately led to Corsa’s victory was:

  • Its impressively small capacity turbocharged engine
  • Its value for money
  • Practicality
  • Redeemed brand strength
  • Warranty and service plan
  • Ride and handling
  • Comprehensive safety features

Here is a comment from the well-known consumer journalist Wendy Knowler: "The Corsa is just beautiful: It rides comfortably, yet it's dynamic, corners confidently and is anything but sluggish. There is definitely an element of fun to the car; I could not fault it."

A leading online automotive retail portal, lists thousands of new vehicles that are stocked by more than 1000 vehicle dealers throughout South Africa and delivers in excess of 30 million views per month to over a million unique users. The portal has a presence on multiple digital platforms and is ranked among the top 10 branded South African YouTube channels with 20 million views to date.

Furthermore, the motoring supplement of Independent Media, Independent Motoring, crowned the Opel Astra the 2016 overall winner in the Best Family Car category. Factors taken into account were:

  • Weight saving
  • Autonomous technology
  • Leaps made in space, ergonomics and drive train versus its predecessor

In addition, the Opel Astra was named as a finalist for the 2017 WesBank / SAGMJ Car of the Year competition by The South African Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ). Preparations are now being made for two days of stringent evaluations taking place in the beginning of February 2017.

With Opel Astra being such a firm favourite, it is highly likely that Opel will win. Don’t forget to share this fantastic news when engaging with your customers. The winner will be announced at the COTY Banquet Gala on 15 March 2017.
